Ħamrun SC and Sliema BS suffered defeats in their respective European Beach Soccer competitions currently being held in Nazaré, Portugal.
National champions Sliema Beach Soccer were beaten 7-3 by Bavaria Beach Bazis in the Euro Winners Cup. Sliema’s goals were scored by Matthew Schembri and Leejoe Schembri , while an own goal by Leemann also contributed to their tally. Knöpfli scored twice for the German side, with further goals securing a comfortable victory.
Sliema will return to action on Wednesday against Finland’s BSC Hobby at 10:15am.
Meanwhile, Ħamrun SC lost 3-2 to Naxos BS in a closely contested Euro Winners Challenge quarterfinal encounter. The Italian side took the lead through Caltabiano in the fifth minute before Edinho equalised for Ħamrun early in the second period. Caltabiano restored Naxos’ advantage, while Winters levelled matters once again for the Maltese side. However, Villani netted the winning goal for Naxos.
Ħamrun SC will now play France’s Mouilleron SF in the fifth-place classification match at 6:00pm.
