Hamrun Spartans secured the services of thirty three year old Italian forward Marcello Trotta.
After playing at youth level with Real Portico, ASD Recale and Napoli, Trotta moved to Manchester City and eventually Fulham from where he was loaned to Wycombe Wanderers, Watford, Brentford and Barnsley. He returned to Italy to join Avellino and eventually Sassuolo. He was loaned to Crotone and then transferred to Frosinone. He had spells on loan with Ascoli, Farmalicao in Portugal and Cosenza. Later he moved to Triestina and eventually played for Avellino, Pistoiese, Brindisi, Turris and Sora.
This summer, the Spartans, now led by coach Marco Amelia, signed Jake Grech, Ante Coric, Lucas Villela, Jack Ipalibo, Tobias Bjørnstad, Messie Biatoumoussoka and Saliou Thioune and renewed the contracts of Damir Ceter, Emerson Marcelina and Rafael Compri.
