Floriana return to winning ways

Floriana moved top as they defeated Gzira United 4-1 in a match from the VBET Malta Premier Opening Round league phase at the Centenary Stadium on Wedensday.

The Greens, therefore, returned to winning ways after the draw with Hamrun Spartans to remain unbeaten after four matches. Gzira, on the other hand, remain anchored at the bottom of the table without any points after four matches.

Coach Daniel Portela opted for five changes to the team with Pablo Picon, Kauan, Robert Muric, Alen Kurtalic and Tomislav Gudelj handed a start but was forced to make four changes in the beginning of the second half. Gzira, on the other hand, had Dejan Farrugia replacing Andy Borg. 

Following a goalless first half, the Greens took the lead on 47 minutes when off a cross by Robert Muric from the left, Tomislav Gudelj hit home from close range. 

The Maroons equalised on the hour thanks to Maxuell Samurai who hit home from close range after goalkeeper Pablo Picon failed to save a shot from the right. 

However, Floriana regained the lead on 68 minutes with a goal by Ange Curtis N’Dri who beat goalkeeper Edoardo Colombo with a shot from the right. 

The Greens extended the lead on 76 minutes to Tomislav Gudelj who hit home from close range and finally on 82 minutes, Carlo Zammit Lonardelli made it 4-1 with a shot from outside the area which gave the Gzira custodian no chance.
