The BOV National League I gets underway this weekend with one game on Friday, four on Saturday and one on Sunday.
Unlike last season, twelve teams will be taking part following the promotion of Attard and Victoria Hotspurs to the Challenge League and the relegation of Xghajra Tornados, Kirkop United, Zejtun Corinthians and Luqa St. Andrew’s.
The new participants are Mtarfa and Marsa who were relegated from the Challenge League along with the two teams who were promoted from the National League II – Kalkara United and Dingli Swallows.
The other teams are Qormi, Lija Athletic, Mqabba, San Gwann, Senglea Athletic, Mellieha, Qrendi and Pembroke Athleta.
Marsa FC will start the season with -13 points following a decision of the Malta FA Licensing Board.
As from this season, in the National League 1, where two non-homegrown players are on the field of play, the club must have at least one homegrown player on the field of play and one homegrown player on the bench who are under nineteen years of age before January 1, 2026 or two homegrown players on the field of play who are under nineteen years of age before January 1, 2026. On the other hand, where one non-homegrown player is on the field of play, the club must have at least one homegrown player on the field of play who is under nineteen years of age before January 1, 2026.
This requirement ceases to apply where such player/s is/are on the field of play is sent off by the referee.
