BOV National Cup: Dingli Swallows beat St. George’s in nine-goal thriller

Dingli Swallows defeated St. George’s 5-4 at the Sirens Stadium in a match from the Round of 32 of the BOV National Cup.

Owen Galea put St. George’s ahead on 4 minutes and Timothy Thomas doubled the score on 17 minutes but Mark Cutajar reduced the gap on 26 minutes and Jayden John Bonanno equalised a minute later. Gareth Cassar put Dingli ahead for the first time on 43 minutes and one minute in the second half, Mark Cutajar made it 4-2. St. George’s reduced the gap with a Timothy Thomas penalty on 64 minutes and Andres Martinez restored equilibrium three minutes later. However, Jade Anthony Clarke made it 5-4 seven minutes from time. 

The Swallows will be facing Mtarfa in the Round of 32.

At the Centenary Stadium, Lija Athletic defeated Ta’ Xbiex 4-3. Lija went three goals ahead thanks to Abdulahi Sheikh Ibrahim on 9 minutes, Gabriel Vilas Boas on 19 minutes and Ibrahim once again on 23 minutes. Roberty converted a penalty for Ta’ Xbiex on 36 minutes but another penalty, this time converted by Vilas Boas, four minutes later, restored the three goal lead. Miguel Curmi scored twice on 54 and 65 minutes to reduce the gap for Ta’ Xbiex. 

Lija will be facing San Gwann in the Round of 32 after they beat Xghajra Tornados 3-1 after extra-time at the Centenary Stadium. Adam Camilleri put San Gwann ahead on 37 minutes but Oghechukwi Junior Ohalewe converted a penalty on 67 minutes to level matters. The game went into extra-time and James Sunday Falana restored the lead for San Gwann on 91 minutes and Benjamin Spiteri sealed the issue with a goal on 120 minutes. 

At the Sirens Stadium, Luqa St. Andrew’s defeated Munxar Falcons 4-1. Andreas Psaila put Luqa ahead on 34 minutes and three minutes in the second half, Jamie Camilleri doubled the score. Owden Vella made it 3-0 on 75 minutes and although Michael Borg Olivier reduced the gap on 81 minutes, Jake Peplow made it 4-1 two minutes in added time. 

In the Round of 32, Luqa will be facing Mdina Knights.
