Balzan return to winning ways

Balzan returned to winning ways as they defeated Gzira United 3-0 in a match from the VBET Malta Premier Opening Round Bottom 6 at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.

This was the first win for Balzan after a winless streak of seven matches during which they collected just four points in four draws. They join Zabbar on 14 points, one behind Mosta and Birkirkara.

Gżira, on the other hand, suffered their seventh defeat this season to remain anchored at the bottom of the table, two points behind Birżebbuġa St. Peter’s.

Balzan took the lead on 29 minutes when Leo Fernandes delivered a corner from the right and Nikola Ignjatovic’s powerful header gave goalkeeper Edoardo Colombo no chance.

Twelve minutes in the second half, Balzan doubled the score when Mohammed Yahaya provided the assist from the right and Nikola Djoric slotted the ball past goalkeeper Colombo.

Balzan made it 3-0 on 71 minutes as Sekala Guehi gained possession in midfield and advanced upfield before serving Mohammed Yahaya, who all alone in front of the goalkeeper, placed the ball at the back of the net.
