Hibernians move third as Floriana suffer third successive defeat

An early goal paved the way for a 2-0 win for Hibernians over Floriana in the opening match from the VBET Malta Premier Opening Round Bottom 6 at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.

The Paolites extended their positive run with a fourth win in six matches to move third in the table, leaving the Greens in sixth place as the latter suffered a third successive defeat.

Hibs took the lead after just five minutes when off a Moritz Romling corner, headers by Bjorn Kristensen and Kurt Shaw followed with Joy Slayd Mickels heading the ball past goalkeeper Guilherme Cioletti.

Floriana hit the upright early in the second half following a Robert Muric free kick, deflected by Stephen Odey.

However, nine minutes from time, Hibs doubled the score when Joseph Mbong served Bonnici on the right and off the latter’s assist, Alex Sobczyk hit home from close range.
