Financial contribution by VisitMalta for clubs representing Malta in European competitions

VisitMalta will be sponsoring clubs representing Malta in the UEFA competitions this summer, namely Hibernians, Floriana, Hamrun Spartans, Gzira United and the Birkirkara women’s team – with a financial grant of €10,000.

VisitMalta will be given exposure on these teams’ shirts as Hibernians travel to Ireland, Floriana visit Moldova, Hamrun Spartans travel to Armenia and Gzira United go to San Marino apart from Birkirkara who are still awaiting the UEFA Women’s Champions League draws.

Details were given during a press conference which was addressed by Minister for Tourism Clayton Bartolo, Malta Tourism Authority Chief Executive Officer Carlo Micallef and Malta FA President Bjorn Vassallo.

Minister Clayton Bartolo said that in recent years, the Malta Tourism Authority embarked on an intensive advertising programme aimed at attract more tourists to Malta. He added that the clubs participating in European competitions were not only representing themselves but also Malta.

MTA CEO Carlo Micallef said that this was one of the authority’s initiatives investing in sport in order to attract tourism throughout the whole year thanks to media coverage being given to sport in Europe an beyond. Micallef added that the MTA works hard to host several teams from different sports for training camps during which they would enjoy the beauty of the country. He said that thanks to this agreement with these clubs, VisitMalta would be getting more exposure in the media which is of utmost importance for the promotion of Malta and Gozo as an ideal destination for tourists.

Malta FA president Bjorn Vassallo concluded by wishing local clubs success in these competition by obtaining positive results.​
