BOV Challenge League: Sliema Wanderers crowned champions

Sliema Wanderers were crowned champions of the BOV Challenge League thanks to a fine 6-0 win over Zejtun Corinthians at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.

Geoffrey Acheampong put the Wanderers ahead on the 33rd and Neil Frendo was quick to double the score. Lydon Micallef made it 3-0 on the 57th and Miguel D’Alessandro scored Sliema’s fourth five minutes later. Lydon Micallef extended the lead on the 79th with Neil Frendo adding another two minutes from time.

In another match, a goal by Igor Misan six minutes in the second half handed Zurrieq a narrow win over Melita at the Centenary Stadium.

Sliema lead the way with 68 points, followed by Naxxar on 57, Zejtun 41, Tarxien 39, Zurrieq 32 and Melita 31.

In the Play-Out, San Gwann came from behind to beat Marsa 2-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Ian Montanaro put Marsa ahead on the 26th but Courage Omoruanzoje equalised six minutes from the end of the first half and Tobi Akiti notched the winner.

Marsaskala, on the other hand, defeated Vittoriosa Stars 3-1 in another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Isaac Galea put Vittoriosa ahead on the 38th but in added time, Rundell Winchester equalised just before half-time. Adrian Carabott converted a penalty on the 72nd and two minutes later, Josuel Spiteri made it 3-1.

Swieqi lead the way with 41 points, followed by St. Andrews on 39, Fgura 35, Lija 33, Marsa 31, Attard 30, San Gwann 28, Marsaskala and Qrendi 27, Mqabba 21, Mtarfa and Vittoriosa 20. Mtarfa and Vittoriosa were therefore relegated.
