Experienced Simon Aquilina (Senglea Athletic) and Robert Adami (Vittoriosa Stars) were registered on loan while Brazilian Ricardo Severino Goncalves (ex-Senglea Athletic) and Martin Portelli (ex-Xghajra Tornados) signed with the club.
Interesting youngsters Carl Calvagna was transferred on a permanent deal from Birkirkara FC, while Neville Zerafa and Michael Zammit crossed over on a loan spells from nearby St. Patrick and Tarxien Rainbows respectively.
The squad was bolstered by returning players such as keeper Renald Attard, Johnny and Twanny Gheiti, Christian Bordieri and Mark Sammut.
Team Manager Anthony Gafa’ stated that the aim of the club is to be as competitive as possible in a long and tiring season with over 26 games. So the Committee’s and coach intention was to have a big squad which can cope with the team’s commitments.
President Lawrence Bugeja said that in the 40th year of the club, the club is going through a major facelift. Following the new facilities that are now being used by all the Club’s squad, the Committee is also erecting a new clubhouse adjacent to the training pitches.
Thanks to the financial input from the MFA, Club, Government, KMS and Local Council, the Local Council, the project is already bearing fruit as the Nursery’s compliment is on the rise after a lean spell while the pitches have become a popular choice for the 5-a-side and 7-a-side teams. He also thanked the firms who have donated funds to partly finance the project and also EuroSport who signed a technical sponsorship deal with the Club.
Club Secretary Stefan Vella said that the expansion calls for more manpower and invited people who have the club at heart to participate and join the administration or technical staff to give a helping hand.
