The estimated gross commercial revenue from the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Super Cup is €1.34 billion. €55 million will be allocated exclusively to the play-off rounds, as was the case in the 2009–12 cycle: each of the 20 clubs participating in the play-offs will collect a fixed amount of €2.1 million.
The 32 clubs featuring in the 2012/13 UEFA Champions League group stage can anticipate a minimum €8.6m – and the team that goes on to win the trophy next spring could collect €37.4m, not counting the market pool share. Each of the 32 sides involved in the group stage will collect a base fee of €8.6m. Performance bonuses will also see €1m paid for a win and €500,000 for a draw in the group phase.
The teams competing in the round of 16 can also expect to pick up €3.5m each, the quarter-finalists €3.9m and the semi-finalists €4.9m. The UEFA Champions League winners will receive €10.5m and the runners-up €6.5m.
Under the solidarity distribution system, every domestic champion club that fails to reach the UEFA Champions League group stage will be entitled to €200,000. In addition, each club that plays in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League will receive €140,000 provided they do not qualify for the UEFA Champions League group stage.
Likewise, every team performing in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League will earn €140,000 provided they do not qualify for the UEFA Champions League group stage, while each side eliminated in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League will get €140,000.
Valletta who eliminated FC Lusitans of Andorra in the first qualifying round but lost to FK Partizan of Serbia in the second qualifying round will therefore earn €480,000.
Meanwhile gross commercial revenue from the 2012/13 UEFA Europa League is estimated at about €225m. The share for distribution to the clubs will amount to €168.75m. In addition, the UEFA Executive Committee has approved a further contribution of €40m to the UEFA Europa League club share, with funding provided by the UEFA Champions League clubs and UEFA shares – meaning a total net UEFA Europa League club share of €208.75.
Each of the 48 clubs that feature in the group stage can expect to receive a group stage fee of €1.3m. There will also be performance bonuses of €200,000 for every win and €100,000 for every draw in the group stage. Moreover, qualification bonuses will be allotted to the teams that progress to the round of 32: the 12 group winners can anticipate earning €400,000 apiece and the runners-up €200,000.
With regard to the knockout phase, sides competing in the round of 32 will collect €200,000 each, clubs in the round of 16 €350,000, the quarter-finalists €450,000 and the semi-finalists €1m. The UEFA Europa League winners will pick up €5m and the runners-up €2.5m.
Each club figuring in the first and/or second and/or third qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League gets €100,000 per round even if they qualify for the UEFA Europa League group stage. In addition, every side eliminated in the UEFA Europa League play-offs will be allocated €100,000.
Therefore Birkirkara, Hibernians and Floriana will be receiving €100,000 after they were eliminated by FK Metalurg Skopje of FYR Macedonia, FK Sarajevo of Bosnia Herzegovina and IF Elfsborg of Sweden respectively.
