Birkirkara, Valletta agree Rowen Muscat, Henry Bonello swap deal

Birkirkara and Valletta reached an agreement over a swap deal involving Malta international players Rowen Muscat and Henry Bonello. The two players are expected to sign for their new clubs on Friday.

A product of Sliema Wanderers, Henry Bonello made his Premier League debut for the Blues in season 2006/07. He spent one season on loan with Vittoriosa Stars in Division 1 in season 2009/10 and on his return, he took the number 1 shirt at the club. While at Sliema, he won the FA Trophy. Bonello joined Hibernians on loan in season 2014/15 with whom he won the title. The following season, he moved to Valletta on loan but eventually, the Citizens made his a definite transfer. With the Citizens, Bonello also won the championship.

At Birkirkara, Henry Bonello is set to replace Croatian goalkeeper Miroslav Kopric who seems to be on his way out of the club.

Meanwhile a product of Birkirkara, Rowen Muscat made his Premier League debut for the Stripes in season 2009/10. In summer 2014, he was transferred to Hungarian top division side Dunaujvaros PASE but his stay was cut short as he was released due to the club’s financial problems. He returned with the club but last January, he joined Pavia in Italy on a six-month spell.

With Birkirkara, Rowen Muscat won two Premier League championships, an FA Trophy and a Super Cup.
