Mġarr United’s perfect season continued in style, with the Greens extending their winning streak to eight in the Assikura Women’s League.
Mġarr United extended their flawless run in the Assikura Women’s League, claiming their eighth consecutive victory on Thursday to maintain their perfect start to the season.
The Greens have now won all their league fixtures, sitting comfortably at the top of the table with 24 points.
Ryan Vella’s side were further boosted by the long-awaited return of star forward Brenda Borg, who came on in the second half after recovering from a serious knee injury. The Malta international marked her comeback in style, finding the net for Mġarr’s sixth goal of the match.
Argentine striker María Hernández and Colombian forward Alejandra Villegas both bagged braces, while Yulya Carella and French attacker Josline N’Guessan were also on the scoresheet.

Swieqi United came from behind to defeat Birkirkara in Saturday’s opening fixture.
The Stripes took an early lead just six minutes in through Momo Ueda, but Swieqi turned the game around before the break, scoring twice in quick succession through Shona Zammit and Michaela Cachia.
After the interval, Salamatu Abdulai added a brace — first converting from the penalty spot before extending Swieqi’s advantage shortly after — to seal a convincing victory.

In the weekend’s other fixture, Hibernians cruised past Valletta to keep pace with Swieqi on 18 points, six behind league leaders Mġarr.
The Paolites effectively sealed the win by half-time, racing to a five-goal lead thanks to a brace from Leah Ayres and further goals from Chisha Zulu, Cali Schechinger, and Suzanne Farrugia Sacco.
After the interval, Zulu added her second of the match, while Sylivia Kabene completed the scoring to round off a dominant display.
