Mosta, Valletta and Zabbar St. Patrick made it to the quarter-finals of the Meridianbet FA Trophy as they emerged as winners in the three Round of 16 matches in programme on Wednesday.
At the Centenary Stadium, Mosta defeated Mgarr United 2-0 thanks to goals by Cheikh Diamanka Senghor on 43 minutes and Leo Fernandes seven minutes in the second half.
The Blues meet Gzira United or Hibernians in the next stage.
In another match at the Centenary Stadium, Valletta defeated Tarxien Rainbows 1-0.
Yuri Messias put the Citizens ahead on 37 minutes thanks to a penalty. Tarxien could have equalised seven minutes from time but Nhayson failed to score from the penalty spot.
Valletta will be facing Hamrun Spartans in the quarter-finals.
At the Tony Bezzina Stadium, Zabbar St. Patrick defeated Floriana 4-2 on penalties following a goalless draw at the end of the ninety minutes and extra-time.
With no goals being scored after one hundred and twenty minutes, the penalty shoot-out had to determine the winner. Mario Fontanella missed the first penalty for Zabbar and Jake Grech put the Greens ahead. Nicholas James Agius equalised for Zabbar. Iago Mendonca’s penalty was neutralised by Zabbar goalkeeper Manuel Issufe Djalo and Izaak Etim Akpan put Zabbar ahead for the first time. Chico Teixeira and Massimo Forte scored for Floriana and Zabbar respectively. Rui Areias hit the crossbar for Floriana with Jake Micallef converting for Zabbar to put them into the next round.
Zabbar will be facing the winner of the match between Birkirkara and Pieta’ Hotspurs in the next round.
Mosta, Valletta and Zabbar St. Patrick join Hamrun Spartans, Naxxar Lions and Zurrieq in the quarter-finals.
The quarter finals are scheduled for March 3 and 4 and the semi finals for April 4.
The final will be played on May 24
