Birkirkara ended Valletta’s fine positive run of seven matches without defeat as they scored a late goal to beat them 1-0 in a match from the YoHealth Malta Premier Closing Round league phase at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Sunday.
For Paul Zammit’s side, this was the second successive win which puts them in sixth place on nine points, one behind Gzira, Hibernians and Marsaxlokk and one ahead of the Citizens who were suffering a first defeat after two wins and two draws in the first four matches.
The Stripes could have taken the lead five minutes in the second half when they were awarded a penalty but Alessandro Coppola’s effort was neutralised by Adilson Maringa.
However with three minutes to go, Donovan Makoma scored the all-important goal for Birkirkara.
