Birkirkara made it five wins in a row thanks to an impressive 3-0 win over Valletta at the National Stadium on Sunday to join Hamrun Spartans on top the BOV Premier League table.
For Valletta, this was the second defeat after losing to rivals Floriana in their previous outing.
From the last game, Kurt Zammit replaced Alessandro Coppola for Birkirkara while Valletta had three changes as Andrea Zammit, Brandon Paiber and Flavio Cheveresan were preferred to Triston Caruana, Christian Gauci and Ulrich N’Nomo.
The Stripes took the lead on the 29th minute when off a Kevin Tulimieri freekcik from the left, Enmy Pena Beltre’s back header beat Alessandro Guarnone for an own goal.
Birkirkara doubled the score on the 73rd when off a cross by Osvaldo Iorio from the right, Enzo Daniel Cabrera beat Guarnone from close range.
Osvaldo Iorio was sent off seven minutes from time but on the 86th, Birkirkara scored a third goal when Alex da Paixao Alves released substitute Federico Falcone on the right and the latter hit home past the Valletta custodian.
