Newly-promoted Marsaxlokk registered their first win in the BOV Premier League as they defeated Zebbug Rangers 3-0 at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Saturday.
This win enables Pablo Doffo’s side to leapfrog Zebbug and now shares the ninth place with Hibernians who however have a game in hand. For Zebbug, this was the fourth defeat in five matches.
Doffo made six changes following the 1-2 defeat to Balzan with three players making their debut – goalkeeper Marko Drobnjak, Juan Cruz Aguillar and Kristian Keqi with another three players handed a start, namely Ayrton Attard, Peter Xuereb and Daniel Agius. For Zebbug, Gaetano Gesualdi replaced Wilker Rocha Santos.
Marsaxlokk took the lead on the 12th minute when Kristian Keqi advanced on the right before serving Santiago Ferraris whose conclusion was deflected by Leandro Almeida past goalkeeper Jamie Azzopardi.
Three minutes from the end of the first half, Marsaxlokk doubled the score when off a Daniel Agius freekick from the right, Tiago Fonseca’s header hit the far post before ending at the back of the net.
The Southseasiders sealed the issue with a third goal on the 74th minute when Ayrton Attard had an angled shot from the right blocked by Azzopardi and off the rebound, Kristian Keqi hit home.
