Hibs move eighteen points clear — Balzan return to victory

BOV-Premier-LeagueTwo quick goals towards the hour paved the way for BOV Premier League leaders Hibernians as they beat Pietà Hotspurs 3-0 at the Hibernians Stadium to move temporarily eighteen points clear of second-placed Birkirkara and Valletta.

This defeat leaves the Hotspurs second from bottom on 14 points, two behind Tarxien and three behind Naxxar and Qormi.

At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Balzan brought to an end their winless streak as they defeated Mosta 1-0. For Balzan, this was the first win since September 27.

BOV-First-DivisionGudja United and Vittoriosa Stars join St. Andrews in second place in the BOV First Division, one point behind Pembroke Athleta after both registered identical wins on Saturday.

Gudja United returned to winning ways as they defeated Msida St. Joseph 2-1. For Msida, this was the third successive defeat.

Mauro Brincat converted a penalty on the 6th minute and on the 31st George Chircop doubled the score. Dino Cachia pulled one back on 43 minutes.

BOV Division 3: Fourth consecutive win for Attard

BOV-Third-DivisionLeaders Kirkop United registered their eighth win in eleven matches in the BOV Third Division as they beat Santa Lucia 3-0 in one of six matches on Saturday. A win which enables them to maintain a three-point lead over Mgarr United. On the other hand, for Santa Lucia, this was the third successive defeat.

Sinclair Camilleri put Kirkop ahead on 14 minutes. Michael Zammit doubled the score six minutes in the second half, adding another two minutes in added time.

A penalty by Ryan Vella on 73 minutes enabled Mgarr United to defeat Sta. Venera Lightnings 1-0.

Precious points for Floriana — Tarxien return to winning ways

BOV-Premier-LeagueA brace by Amadou Samb within the first ten minutes paved the way for Floriana as they beat Zebbug Rangers 4-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. A win which puts them on the 21-point mark.

Samb, who was back for the Greens after serving a one-match, however ruined his performance as he was sent off in the dying minutes.

Meanwhile at the Hibernians Stadium, Tarxien Rainbows returned to winning ways as they beat Naxxar Lions courtesy of a goal by the returning Firas Aboulezz.

BOV-First-DivisionLucky Omeruo scored twice as Pembroke Athleta moved at the top of the BOV First Division table with a 3-0 win over Zurrieq at the Centenary Stadium on Friday.

Omeruo put Pembroke ahead on 16 minutes, Lyden Micallef doubled the score on 33 minutes and Omeruo sealed the issue with a third goal ten minutes in the second half.

Malta climbs one place in FIFA Ranking

bulgaria-malta141115pzcMalta ended 2014 in the 147th place in the last FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking for 2014. Therefore Malta climbed another place after climbing nine places nine month thanks to the 1-1 draw with Bulgaria.

However among the other European countries, Malta is still ranked third from bottom, ahead of San Marino (179, up 1) and Andorra (201). Lying just ahead of Malta are Moldova (121, down 1), Georgia (125, up 1), Luxembourg (128, up 1), Liechtenstein (132, down 2), Azerbaijan (135) and Kazakhstan (139).
