Eleven Premier League players suspended — Ten-match ban for Naxxar officials

20110417-114224.jpgNaxxar Lions president Dione Drago and team-manager Roderick Albani were both handed a ten-match ban by the MFA Disiciplinary Commissioner following incidents after the BOV Premier League clash with Qormi last week. Drago tendered his resignation from president on Wednesday.

Meanwhile Naxxar Lions and Floriana both have three players ruled out of this weekend’s clash. Igor Coronado, Gary Muir and Brooke Farrugia were suspended for the Greens after collecting a fourth yellow card. For Naxxar, Julian Azzopardi was suspended for a fourth yellow card, Gilmar da Silva Ribeiro was banned after being sent off during the last game while David Alejandro Reano was banned as he lacked a valid medical certificate.

Lucas Goncalves da Silva of Tarxien was suspended for two matches. Bojan Kaljevic (Mosta), Manuel Caruana (Tarxien) and Roderick Briffa (Valletta) were handed a one-match ban due to a fourth yellow card while Dario Tabone (Valletta) was suspended as he lacked a valid medical certificate.

BOV Women’s League: B’Kara, Hibs continue battle for title — Fgura promoted

bov-women-first-division-2013-2014Birkirkara and Hibernians registered identical 2-0 wins on Tuesday to continue the battle for the BOV Women’s First Division title. With one game to go, the two teams share the top spot with 45 points. The Stripes defeated Gozo while the Paolites beat Mgarr United.

Next week, Birkirkara take on Mgarr United while Hibernians face Pembroke Athleta.

Meanwhile in a clash between the bottom two teams, Pembroke Athleta defeated Raiders (Luxol) 2-1.

Swieqi United FC celebrate five years of success

swieqi-united-fcBack in 2009, two University students remarked that Swieqi did not have a football club that represented the locality. After a couple of meetings, Swieqi United F.C was born on April 14th 2009 and a quick application was made to the Malta Football Association (MFA) in order to have the club accredited with the association. A careful and calculated search for committee members and players followed which eventually led to the club ending 8th of ten teams in its maiden season.

Fast forward five years, and in 2014 the club finds itself flying high! The Seniors Team managed to obtain a first ever historic promotion to the MFA Second Division. The Futsal Team, which was established in 2012, is battling against some of Malta’s elite futsal teams in the Maltese Futsal Premier League. Season 2013-2014 was also the maiden season for the Swieqi United FC U19s who managed to obtain some incredible results and ended the season in fourth place, few points shy of promotion. SUFC also launched its Youth Academy and will be competing in the U17 league next season. Last but not least, in collaboration with the MFA, SUFC has opened its own 7-a side pitch in Pembroke.

Changes in BOV First, Second and Third Division fixtures announced

MFAThe Malta Football Association announced changes in fixtures for the BOV First Division, BOV Second Division and BOV Third Division matches in programme in two weeks’ time due to decisive matches for the championship or relegation or due to the celebrations by the champions.

In the BOV First Division, the matches Msida St. Joseph vs Zejtun Corinthians and Birzebbuga St. Peter’s vs Zurrieq scheduled for Saturday 26 will be played at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, starting at 16:00 and 18:15 respectively while Gudja United vs Pietà Hotspurs and St. George’s vs St. Andrews will be played on Sunday 17 at 16:00 and 18:00 respectively.
