Sliema Wanderers win Mosta Summer Cup 2015

mosta-groundSliema Wanderers won the Summer Cup 2015, organised by Mosta FC at the Charles Abela Stadium, after winning four matches and losing one.

The Blues defeated Naxxar Lions 1-0, Mosta 2-0, Balzan 3-1 and Qormi 1-0 but lost 1-2 to Pembroke Athleta in their final game.

Newly-promoted Pembroke Athleta defeated Qormi 5-1, Mosta on penalties following a 3-3 draw, Naxxar Lions on penalties following a 1-1 draw, losing to Balzan 0-5.

Senglea, hosts St. Andrews share spoils in 3-3 draw in Luxol tournament

luxol-stadiumSenglea Athletic and St. Andrews shared the spoils in an entertaining 3-3 draw in a game from Group B in the St. Andrews Summer Friendship Cup being played at the Luxol Stadium.

Christian Cassar put Senglea ahead on the 11th but Joseph Farrugia levelled matters five minutes later. Cassar restored the lead on the 22nd thanks to a penalty but another penalty, this time converted by Felix Udoh for St. Andrews on the half-hour made it 2-2. The Saints forged ahead thanks to Luca Cosmai on the 45th but thirteen minutes in the second half, Miguel Ciantar restored equilibrium.

Balzan extend Oliver Spiteri’s contract

balzan-fcBalzan FC announced that they have extended first team coach Oliver Spiteri’s contract to the end of season 2017/18.

Spiteri had joined Balzan in summer 2014, leading the club to a historic fourth place and participation in the UEFA Europa League.

Second wins for Valletta, Sliema in St. Andrews Tournament

luxol-stadiumValletta and Sliema Wanderers registered their second win in the Summer Friendship Cup as they registered wins during the weekend.

In Group A, on Saturday, Valletta beat First Division side Melita 4-0. Uchenna Callistus Umeh put the Citizens ahead on the 10th and five minutes later, Njongo Priso doubled the score. Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza increased the lead further eight minutes later with Njongo Priso sealing the issue with a fourth goal on the 90th.

In Group B, Sliema Wanderers defeated another First Division side, Fgura United, 2-1. Ryan Dalli put the Amateurs ahead on 35 minutes but Armando Terna levelled matters seven minutes later. However Mark Scerri notched the winner on the 78th minute.

Under-19 side to play friendly matches in Azerbaijan

MFAThe Malta Under-19 national team will be travelling to Baku, Azerbaijan, for two friendly matches on the 5th and 7th August.

Newly-appointed Under-19 national coach David De Sousa Nascimento and his assistant Noel Turner named an eighteen-man squad for this trip. The squad includes Italy-based Conor Borg of AS Roma and Juan Carlos Corbalan of Virtus Lanciano.
