BOV-Premier-LeagueBirkirkara kept the pace with leaders Hibernians as they registered a 3-0 win over Mosta.

Two goals within the first thirty minutes paved the way for Paul Zammit’s side, adding another late in the game. For Mosta, this was the third defeat in five matches. The Blues, who lie just two points ahead of Pietà and Zebbug and three ahead of Naxxar and Tarxien, won just one of the last ten matches.

BOV-Premier-LeagueLeaders Hibernians moved temporarily eleven points clear in the BOV Premier League table following a most comfortable 5-0 win over Zebbug Rangers at the Hibernians Stadium. This was the twenty-first win for Hibernians in twenty-four matches to extend their unbeaten record in their league campaign.

More was expected from Zebbug who were coming from a fine 3-2 win over Valletta last week. They now share the eighth place with Pietà, one point ahead of Tarxien and Naxxar and three ahead of Qormi.

Meanwhile at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Balzan survived an early scare as they came back from one goal down to beat Naxxar Lions 2-1 and return to winning ways after collecting just one point from the previous two matches.

BOV Division 1: Dramatic win for Vittoriosa

BOV-First-DivisionVittoriosa Stars scored two late goals to turn defeat into victory as they beat Msida St. Joseph in a match from the BOV First Division on Saturday.

Michael Camilleri put the Stars ahead on the 4th minute but a brace by Helder Souza on the 5th and 45th turned the score in favour of Msida. However substitutes Henrique Eder Guedes and Gianluca Calabretta hit twice on the 85th and 87th respectively to hand Arturo di Napoli’s side a second consecutive win.

In another match, Gzira United moved back in second place thanks to a 3-1 win over Melita.

BOV Division 2: San Gwann share top spot with Hamrun after draw with Siggiewi

BOV-Second-DivisionSan Gwann and Hamrun Spartans are joint-leaders in the BOV Second Division after San Gwann could only manage to get a point from the clash with Siggiewi.

An own goal one minute in the second half put San Gwann ahead but goals by Francois Guihard on the 55th and Kim Buhagiar on the 75th gave Siggiewi the lead. Dormond Micallef rescued a point for San Gwann with a goal seven minutes from time.

Senglea Athletic moved four points clear of Zejtun Corinthians thanks to a 2-0 win over Xghajra Tornados.

Pietà rescue a point thanks to late goal

BOV-Premier-LeagueA goal on the 90th minute by Leonardo Fortunato dos Santos enabled Pietà Hotspurs to earn a point in a 1-1 draw with Sliema Wanderers.

The Blues were disappointed to drop two important points in the battle for a place in the UEFA Europa League.

Meanwhile Floriana came back from one goal down to beat Tarxien Rainbows 2-1 to claim three important points which enable them to stay in fourth place.

Premier Division Standing Committee urge Integrity Officer to be specific or withdraw allegations

20110208-101108.jpgThe Premier Division Standing Committee issued a statement in which they deplored the way how clubs and their officials are being accused of being financed by illegal betting in a most generic matter.

Referring to a newsletter issued by MFA Integrity Officer Franz Tabone which stated that some Premier League clubs were being financed by illegal betting done by club officials, among others. The PDSC said it was unfair that everyone was put in the same basket in Tabone’s newsletter.

The PDSC asked the MFA Integrity Officer to immediately take all necessary measures within football regulations and refer the information to the police or immediately withdraw his statements. This is also in view of another public statement by the MFA Integrity Officer over a former Premier League club president without mentioning his name.
