UEFA gives MFA Technical Centre go-ahead to hold first UEFA Pro License course

jira-panel-approves-mtc-uefa-proThe JIRA panel which met in Prague on June 27 has officially declared that Malta can hold its first pilot UEFA Pro course.

The course will kick-off on September 12, 2015 and will come to an end in April 2017 with the final assessments of the candidates. Mr Frank Ludolph and Mr Dany Ryser assisted Malta’s preparation in February 2015 with the latter being assigned as a mentor by UEFA to assist in the preparation of the course curriculum and organisation. Mr Ryser will be visiting in various modules as a UEFA tutor.

Esther-&-Marco-in-SKoreaIn its efforts to constantly create new opportunities for its match officials, the MFA Refereeing Department in collaboration with the Football Association of Ireland has made it possible for FIFA Referees Marco Borg and Esther Azzopardi to participate at the 28th edition of the World University Games in Gwangju, South Korea.

The World University Summer Games are held every two years in a different city. They are the only summer multi-sport event that connects students at both academic and athletic levels. The event is only second to the Olympic Games with the participation of around 13,000 participants from 149 countries.

UEFA appoints Victor Mintoff for UEFA Regions Cup final

Victor-MintoffUEFA has appointed former international referee Victor Mintoff as the referee observer of the Regions’ Cup Final between Eastern Region (Republic of Ireland) and Zagreb Region (Croatia), being played on Saturday at the Tallaght Stadium in Dublin. On the other hand, MFA Vice-President Ludovico Micallef has been appointed as UEFA Delegate for the match.

The appointed match officials are referee Nikolaj Hanni (Switzerland), assistant referees Rien Vanyzere (Belgium) and Danijel Devic (Montenegro), and Fourth Official Dzianis Shcharbakou (Belarus).

UEFA-Europa-LeagueBirkirkara were held in a goalless draw by Ulisses FC of Armenia in the first leg of the UEFA
Europa League at the Hibernians Stadium on Thursday. A result which leaves wide open the chances of both sides, reaching the second qualifying round of the competition.

The Stripes had an edge over their opponents but it was only late in the game, especially following the inclusion of Murga and Miccoli, that they had a series of goal-scoring opportunities thanks to which they could have scored the winning goal.

UEFA-Europa-LeagueA goal by Jason Oswell one minute in added time enabled Welsh side Newtown AFC to beat Valletta 2-1 at Latham Park in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League first qualifying round.

After going one goal down, the Citizens had managed to restore equilibrium mid-way through the second half through Jhonnattann but after having a player sent off late in the game, Valletta conceded a second goal.
