Valletta regain sole leadership thanks to comfortable win

BOV-Premier-LeagueValletta regained sole leadership in the BOV Premier League as they found no difficulty in beating Sliema Wanderers 4-2 at the Hibernians Stadium on Tuesday. A win which puts Paul Zammit’s side three points ahead of Hibernians before the latter face Floriana in a delicate clash on Wednesday.

For the Wanderers, this was the third consecutive defeat. A defeat – the seventh of the season – which leaves them fourth from bottom.

Meanwhile at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Pembroke Athleta cruised past neighbours St. Andrews, beating them 4-0.

St. George’s reach FA Trophy fourth round

fa-trophy-logo2014St. George’s were the first team to reach of the fourth round of the FA Trophy after defeating Mqabba 1-0 in a clash between two First Division sides at the Centenary Stadium on Tuesday.

Jean Paul Nomel scored the all-important goal on 35 minutes for Edgar Degabriele’s side.

In the fourth round, they will be facing the winner of the clash betweeen Pietà Hotspurs and Zejtun Corinthians.

Balzan, Mosta return to victory

BOV-Premier-LeagueBalzan moved temporarily on top the BOV Premier League table as they returned to winning ways, defeating Naxxar Lions 4-2 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

On the other hand, Naxxar had to leave the pitch empty-handed after collecting five points from the previous three matches, remaining third from bottom, two points ahead of Qormi.

Meanwhile at the Hibernians Stadium, Mosta bounced back from last week’s defeat to Floriana as they came from behind to beat Qormi 3-1.

BOV-Premier-LeagueAfter losing three out of the last four matches, Balzan will be aiming at returning to winning ways as they take on Naxxar Lions in one of the four matches in programme on Tuesday at the Victor Tedesco Stadium and the Hibernians Stadium.

Joint-leaders Valletta seek another three points from the clash with Sliema Wanderers, Qormi take on Mosta while St. Andrews and Pembroke Athleta cross swords in the derby.

Futsal: Top teams maintain unbeaten streak

futsal-luxol-lija2015Champions Luxol saw off Lija Athletic 4-3 while another three teams registered their third consecutive win in the Gatorade Futsal League.

It was not an easy stroll for the champions as Lija showed great resilience and courage throughout the game. However, it was not enough for the Reds to avoid defeat as a William Barbosa double and goals from Frane Despotovic and Carl Azzopardi saw Luxol through.
Lija answered back with goals scored by Luke Stivala, Ebrahim Massoudi and Chavi Montes Burgos.
