IZIBET Amateur League Play-Outs: Mqabba, St. George’s relegated to Amateur League 2

Mqabba and St. George’s will be playing in the Amateur League 2 next season after losing to Vittoriosa Stars and Pembroke Athleta respectively in the IZIBET Amateur League Play-Outs on Tuesday.

At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Vittoriosa Stars defeated Mqabba 2-1. Following a goalless first half, Joseph Jojo Ogunnupe converted a penalty to put Vittoriosa ahead and although Andres Tenorio Viveros equalised on the 70th, three minutes in added time, Ogunnupe notched the winner.

On the other hand, Pembroke Athleta defeated St. George’s 5-4 on penalties following a goalless draw at the end of regular time and extra-time.

In the penalty shoot-out, Weverton Gomes, Kyle Sciberras Balbi, Mouied Algazali, Nigel Zahra and Jordan Vella scored Pembroke’s penalties; Ivan Bojovic, Erson Schembri, Neil Buttigieg and Adrian Caruana scored for St. George’s but Dylan Grima failed to score.

This means that the teams in Amateur League 1 will be Attard, Msida St. Joseph and another two teams who will be relegated from the Challenge League along with Birzebbuga St. Peter’s, Qrendi, Mellieha, Xghajra Tornados, Rabat Ajax, Pembroke Athleta, Qormi, Marsaskala, San Gwann, Gharghur, Kirkop United and Vittoriosa Stars.

On the other hand, Mqabba, St. George’s, Sta. Venera Lightnings, Kalkara United, Siggiewi, Mdina Knights, Ghaxaq, Dingli Swallows and Ta’ Xbiex will be playing in the Amateur League 2.
