Nevin Portelli was the hero for bottom-placed Mosta as they stunned Hamrun Spartans, beating them 2-1 in the final match from the league phase of the YoHealth Malta Premier Closing Round at the National Stadium on Sunday.
The Spartans therefore missed out on the opportunity of joining Floriana on top to stay three points behind the Greens. Mosta, on the other hand, registered their first win in the Closing Round to move to just two points behind Tarxien.
Nevin Portelli put the Blues ahead two minutes from the end of the first half and went on to double a score when he converted a penalty on 68 minutes. Blessing Eleke reduced the gap for Hamrun on 76 minutes.
