Ryan Vella, head coach of Mġarr United F.C. has been named Assikura Women’s League Coach of the Round for Round 3.
Despite dropping points in draws against fellow title contenders Hibernians F.C. and Swieqi United F.C., the Greens maintained their position at the top of the standings and ultimately secured their maiden league title.
Vella, who also guided the club to Jubilee Cup success in December, led his side on an impressive unbeaten run until their title was mathematically confirmed.
“Winning this award four times in a row reflects the consistency the players and the entire team have shown throughout the season. Individual recognition like this is only possible because of the collective effort and the results achieved on the pitch. Without the players’ hard work, commitment and performances, this award would not have been possible. It is something I share with the whole team and staff.”
“Leading Mġarr to their first-ever league title is incredibly special. The club has been working towards this moment for a long time, and to finally achieve it is a proud milestone for everyone involved. It feels like the hard work that has been put in over the past years has truly paid off. This title belongs to the players, the staff and everyone who has supported the club throughout the journey.”
Meanwhile, Yulya Carella – a key player for Mġarr United’s senior team – was named Assikura Women’s Youth League Player of the Month for December/January following a series of commanding performances.
“This award means a lot to me. It’s my first one and hopefully the first of many. It was one of my goals for this season, so I’m really grateful to have achieved it. I’m thankful for the support and trust from my coaches and teammates because I couldn’t have done this without them.”
“My main aim is always to help the team in any way I can. Whether I’m playing a few minutes or the full game, my mindset is the same every time. When I come on, I try to bring energy and make a positive impact on the game for the team. I really enjoy playing with both the youth and senior teams because it pushes me to improve, learn from others and grow as a player. I’m grateful for every opportunity I get.”
Momo Ueda, forward for Birkirkara F.C., claimed the Assikura Women’s League Player of the Month award for December/January. The club’s top scorer, Ueda has played a pivotal role in revitalising the Stripes’ form during the second half of the 2025/2026 season.
“I’m very proud to be named Player of the Month. For me, this award represents the effort we put in every day. My teammates and coaches challenge me constantly, and that pushes me to grow and improve. I’m thankful to be part of a group that supports and motivates each other.”
“In the second half of the season, we’ve taken a positive step forward. There’s more confidence in our play, and our connection on the pitch is getting stronger.”
