Marsaxlokk defeated Hamrun Spartans by the odd goal in five in a thrilling encounter from the YoHealth Malta Premier Closing Round Top 6 at the Gozo Stadium on Saturday.
A win which puts Marsaxlokk on level points with the Spartans, six behind leaders Floriana. For the Spartans, this was another setback following a defeat to Mosta in their previous outing.
Marsaxlokk took the lead on 7 minutes when off an Isaac Christie-Davies free kick from the left, Oualid El Hasni headed home past goalkeeper Henry Bonello.
Hamrun equalised on 34 minutes when they were awarded a penalty after James Vella handled the ball inside the area and from the penalty spot, Emerson Marcelina converted.
Five minutes in added time, Marsaxlokk regained the lead courtesy of Domantas Simkus whose powerful drive from outside the area beat goalkeeper Bonello.
The Spartans were reduced to ten men ten minutes in the second half as Emerson Marcelina received a second yellow card but on 73 minutes, they levelled matters thanks to Joseph Mbong who received an assist by Sven Xerri from the right before beating goalkeeper Christoffer Mafoumbi.
The game seemed heading for a draw but Marsaxlokk had other thoughts as eight minutes in added time, a powerful drive by Triston Caruana, deflected by Ognjen Bjelicic, beat goalkeeper Henry Bonello to hand the Southseasiders the three points.
