Marsaxlokk stun Hamrun Spartans

After losing to Mosta and a draw with Birkirkara, Marsaxlokk returned to winning ways as they stunned Hamrun Spartans, beating them 2-1 at the National Stadium on Saturday.

A defeat which cost the Spartans the top spot in the table as they now trail leaders Floriana by two points.

The Southseasiders, on the other hand, regained the fourth place in the BOV Premier League, one point ahead of Hibernians and three ahead of Birkirkara but eight behind third-placed Sliema Wanderers.

Following a goalless first half, Marsaxlokk forged ahead seven minutes in the second half thanks to a Yuri de Jesus Messias penalty after the Brazilian’s run on the left flank was halted by Joseph Mbong who brought him down inside the area.

Hamrun Spartans equalised four minutes from time with substitute Roko Prsa heading home a Joseph Mbong cross from the right.

However five minutes in added time, Marsaxlokk restored the lead when another substitute, Samuel Boakye, had a first header blocked by Henry Bonello following a cross from the left and off the rebound, he placed the ball at the back of the net.
