Valletta moved two points behind second-placed Hamrun Spartans and Marsaxlokk as they beat Gzira United 2-1 in a match from the YoHealth Malta Premier Closing Round Top 6 at the Gozo Stadium on Sunday.
Gzira went close two minutes from the end of the first half as David Xuereb’s powerful drive hit the woodwork.
However Valletta took the lead five minutes in the second half with a great Yuri Messias’ effort.
Jackson Mendoza doubled the score with a powerful shot from the edge of the area, which beat goalkeeper Karl Sargeant.
Gzira pulled one back three minutes in stoppage time thanks to substitute Maxuell Maia.
