Following a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Klaksvik, Hamrun Spartans will be all out to secure a spot in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League as they host NSI Runavik of the Faroe Islands in the second leg at the Centenary Stadium on Thursday, kick-off at 19:30.
Over the past week, the Spartans had the opportunity to prepare for the game in the best possible way after the journey to the Faroe Islands last week it took them around 42 hours to reach the destination after cancelled flights, delayed flights, a landing in Bergen – Norway and eventually the arrival in the Faroe Islands just eight hours before the game.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, coach Stefano Sanderra said “It will be an open game. We are working on many aspects and the club has undergone a change of coach along with a number of new acquisitions. We have a group that is not yet fully established and we still have to find our best balance. On the other hand, they are in the middle of the season and are a team that has been playing together for a long time.”
“Tomorrow we will play with everything we have managed to build so far. This is a team that works hard and has quality, but there are things that can only be improved through continuous work. Matches are not won only with tactics, but also with physical condition and mentality. “
“The atmosphere in the dressing room is very positive. The result of the first leg left everything open and we are ready to do everything possible to achieve qualification. This is a period where we are sowing so that later we can reap the fruits of our work. We have a new team and we want to give the players the chance to get to know each other,” added Sanderra.
Should Hamrun reach the second qualifying round, they would be facing FC Koper of Slovenia with the first leg played at home.
