BOV National Cup: Senglea Athletic cruise past Sta. Venera

Another nine teams reached the Round of 16 of the BOV National Cup after claiming wins on Saturday. 

Senglea Athletic defeated Sta. Venera Lightnings 8-0 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Johan Alberto Castano scored twice on 9 and 20 minutes and Philip Christopher Baloteli made it 3-0 on 23 minutes. Adrian Caruana added another three minutes from the end of the first half. Two minutes in the second half, Rudy Cassar extended the lead with Adrian Caruana adding another on the hour. Jack Zammit and Dale Tabone extended the lead further with goals on 79 and 87 minutes.

Senglea will be facing Mellieha in the Round of 16 after a goal by Murilo Freire on 12 minutes handed the latter a narrow win over Pembroke Athleta at the Centenary Stadium.

At the Kercem Ajax Stadium, Rabat Ajax scored four in the second half to beat St. Lawrence Spurs 4-0. Innocent John Awori opened the scoring on 46 minutes and Steve Bezzina doubled the score two minutes later. Julian Suzuki extended the lead on 56 minutes with Jake Micallef scoring the fourth goal one minute in added time.

In the Round of 16, Rabat will be facing Mqabba who defeated Gharb Rangers 2-1 at the Sirens Stadium. Brandon Micallef put Mqabba ahead on 33 minutes and Kurt Borg doubled the score on 67 minutes. Anthony Sultana reduced the gap for Gharb on 79 minutes.

At the Sirens Stadium, a goal by Brandon Bray on 25 minutes and a Christian Saint Ebisindor penalty six minutes from time gave Qrendi a 2-0 win over Siggiewi while a brace by Claudir on 60 and 94 minutes enabled Nadur Youngsters to beat Oratory Youths 2-0 at the Kercem Ajax Stadium.

Qrendi and Nadur Youngsters will be facing each other in the Round of 16.

Kalkara United defeated Ghaxaq 4-1 at the Sirens Stadium. Miguel Perez Jimenez put Kalkara ahead on 8 minutes and Taiwo David Akindele doubled the score on 67 minutes. Jean Claude Annati scored twice on 77 and 84 minutes with Joyfred Farrugia pulling one back eight minutes from time. 

In the Round of 16, Kalkara will be facing Zejtun Corinthians. 

Qormi registered a 6-1 win over Kirkop United at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Daniel GTA put Qormi ahead on 17 minutes and Christopher Mario Baker doubled the score just before the end of the first half. Nicholas Schembri extended the lead four minutes in the second half and Cristian Vella made it 4-0 in 57 minutes. Micheas Schembri scored Qormi’s fifth on 65 minutes and although Alassane Kanate Cisse reduced the gap on 88 minutes, a penalty by Schembri on the 90th restored the five-goal gap.

In the next round, Qormi will be facing Marsaskala.

In the other fixture, Marsa were awarded a walk-over after Mtarfa failed to turn up for the game. Marsa will face Dingli Swallows or St. George’s in the next round.
