Malta FA confirms Mtarfa’s relegation to National League II, 10-point deduction

The Malta FA has confirmed that Mtarfa FC has been suspended from the BOV National League 1 following the club’s failure to fulfil two scheduled league matches during the 2026/27 season.

Mtarfa FC forfeited its matches against Mellieħa SC on 19 September and Senglea Athletic FC on 27 September, with both cases subsequently referred to the Control, Disciplinary and Ethics Committee.

Following its meeting on 2 October, the Committee decided to suspend Mtarfa from the BOV National League 1 competition. The Club did not lodge an appeal against the decision by the applicable deadline of 19 October, meaning that the decision has now become final and binding.

As a result of the suspension, Mtarfa FC has been relegated to the BOV National League 2.

In accordance with Article 41(i) of the MFA Competition Rules, since Mtarfa did not play at least half of its scheduled league matches, the matches against Mellieħa SC and Senglea Athletic FC are declared null and void, with the points previously awarded in respect of these matches consequently deducted. All other scheduled matches involving Mtarfa have also been cancelled.

The following BOV National League 1 fixtures have therefore been cancelled:

Mtarfa has been classified in 12th place in the BOV National League 1 and will be relegated to the BOV National League 2 at the end of the current season. The Club will be joined in relegation by the team finishing in 11th place in the BOV National League 1.

Furthermore, Mtarfa will commence the 2027/28 BOV National League 2 season with a deduction of 10 points, after a decision taken by the Member Clubs Licensing Board, which was then reviewed by the Appeals Board.
