Malta FA promotes first aid preparedness in football with Sport-Specific First Aid Course

A total of 29 participants have been awarded certificates following the successful completion of the Malta FA’s Sport-Specific First Aid Training Course, with a presentation ceremony held on Wednesday at the Malta FA Training Grounds.

The certificates were presented following two sessions aimed at strengthening first aid knowledge and practical skills among personnel involved in football.

The course, organised by the Malta FA in collaboration with the Malta Red Cross, was designed specifically around situations that may be encountered within a sporting environment, providing participants with the knowledge and confidence to respond appropriately to medical emergencies during football activities.

Throughout the two sessions, participants covered key first aid principles, including the role and responsibilities of a first aider, life-saving skills and the activation of emergency medical services. The programme also incorporated practical exercises and sport-specific scenarios, allowing participants to apply their knowledge in situations relevant to the football environment.

The initiative forms part of the Malta FA’s ongoing commitment to promoting safer football environments and ensuring that individuals involved in the game are equipped with the necessary skills to respond effectively in the event of an emergency.

Malta FA Vice President Adrian Casha opened the presentation ceremony by listening to participants’ feedback before highlighting the Association’s continued efforts and significant investment in medical preparedness at sporting venues.

Mr Casha emphasised that medical emergencies demand an immediate and accurate response because lives are at stake, noting the positive impact of the 24/7 regional ambulance service covering more than 30 venues where competitive matches are played throughout the week.

He also thanked the attendees for completing the sport-specific first aid course and recognised their essential contribution to matchday safety. “Your commitment helps ensure that players, coaching staff, and spectators can attend football matches with peace of mind,” Mr Casha added.

The Malta FA congratulates all 29 participants on successfully completing the course and thanks the Malta Red Cross for its collaboration and contribution towards the delivery of the training programme.
