Nadur Youngsters end first round with unbeaten record

First Division leaders Nadur Youngsters ended their first round commitments with an unbeaten record as they defeated SK Victoria Wanderers 1-0 on Saturday thanks to a goal by Milos Stojanovic on 52 minutes.

Xewkija Tigers returned to winning ways as they defeated Victoria Hotspurs 1-0. Dene Shields scored the all-important goal on 84 minutes. Shields had the opportunity to double the score three minutes in added time but had a penalty saved by the Hotspurs goalkeeper.

Kercem Ajax kept the pace with the top two teams with a 2-1 win over Sannat Lions. Anderson Mendes Ribeiro and Andrew Mizzi gave Kercem a two-goal lead with a penalty on the 55th and a goal on the 68th respectively. Fernando de Andrade scored a consolation goal for Sannat one minute from time.

In another match, Oratory Youths and St. Laurence Spurs shared the spoils in a 3-3 draw. Thiago Dos Santos put Oratory ahead on 15 minutes but a brace by Christopher Cauchi on 26 and 34 minutes turned the score in the Spurs’ favour. Shaun Attard made it 2-2 for Oratory and Thiago dos Santos 3-2 on the 81st. St. Laurence rescued a point with a goal on 93 minutes.

Meanwhile two Second Division matches in programme on Friday were abandoned. Zebbug Rovers vs Xaghra United wwas abandoned on the 6th minute due to a floodlight failure while Ghajnsielem vs Munxar Falcons was abandoned on the half-hour due to the bad weather which hit the Maltese Islands.

Ghajnsielem vs Munxar was played on Monday with the Blacks winning 2-0 thanks to goals by Kenny Hili and Charlon Tabone.
