SK Victoria Wanderers will continue to enjoy the top spot in the Melita First Division in Gozo as the end-of-the year matches brought bitter surprises for Nadur Youngsters and Xewkija Tigers.
Nadur lost 0-2 to Victoria Hotspurs as the latter took the lead just before the end of the first half thanks to a goal by Michael Bezzina and doubled the score through an own goal by Frankie Camilleri twelve minutes from time.
Meanwhile Xewkija Tigers lost their unbeaten record as they suffered a 1-2 defeat to Kercem Ajax.
John Camilleri put Kercem ahead on 11 minutes and Malcolm Vella doubled the score seven minutes in the second half. Dene Shields reduced the gap ten minutes later but the tigers’ effort was not enough to spare defeat.
SK Victoria Wanderers lead the way with 24 points, followed by Nadur on 22, Xewkija 21, Kercem 17, Victoria Hotspurs 16, Oratory Youths 13, Munxar 3 and Xaghra 1.
Meanwhile in the Melita Second Division, St. Lawrence Spurs dropped two points in a 1-1 draw with Sannat Lions. Marvic Saliba put Sannat ahead with jonathan micallef equalising for the Spurs.
Gharb Rangers, on the other hand, beat Qala Saints 1-0 thanks to a goal by Joseph Muscat on 55 minutes.
St. Lawrence lead the way with 17 points, followed by Ghajnsielem on 16, Sannat 13, Qala and Gharb 8 and Zebbug 7.
