John Buttigieg appointed Birkirkara coach

Birkirkara have appointed John Buttigieg as their new coach. Buttigieg signed a two-year deal with the club.

Buttigieg will be the Stripes’ fourth coach this season after Paul Zammit, sporting director John Arne Riise and Mark Buttigieg.

John Buttigieg had already served as coach of Birkirkara FC  between March 2007 and July 2009 when he was approached by the Malta Football Association to take over as national coach.

His contract as national team coach, together with that of his assistant Carmel Busuttil were terminated in October 2011. Buttigieg, together with Busuttil, were then appointed to head the Birkirkara FC Academy. In 2014, he was appointed Technical Director of the Floriana FC Nursery.

Buttigieg then joined Sliema Wanderers in summer 2016 but his contract was terminated last January.
