The regulations for the 125th Anniversary Jubilee Cup have been ratified by the Malta FA Executive Board last month.
This one-time competition will take place in the last quarter of the current year. The format of the competition and eligibility of players were defined in the regulations following discussions. The competition will be played on a knock-out basis and in two phases.
All Maltese and Gozitan clubs, together with clubs playing in competitions organised by the Malta FA
member associations, are eligible to participate.
Phase One for Member Clubs shall be played between all clubs in the National Amateur League 1 and National Amateur League 2 and all Gozo FA clubs. Clubs will be divided into three sections: North, South and Gozo. Three clubs from each respective section will qualify for Phase Two of the competition.
From Phase One for Member Associations, the winner would qualify for Phase Two of the competition.
Phase Two will be played between the clubs participating in the Malta Premier and Challenge League together with the ten teams qualified from Phase One.
A preliminary round will reduce the number of teams to 32 to participate in Round 1. The sixteen winners in Round 1 will proceed to the Round of 16 and the competition will continue with the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final.
Throughout the competition, not more than five players who have not formed part of the youth sector would be allowed on the field of play. A player is eligible to participate with only one team representing a member association.
On the other hand, the Women Jubilee Cup will be played between the teams participating in the Women’s League. If there are more than eight teams taking part, a preliminary round will be played and this would be followed by quarter-finals, semi-finals and final.
