The Malta FA refers to its communication of the 4th November 2025, in which it announced the appointment of an internal inquiry into possible financial discrepancies flagged by its Finance Department. The inquiry has since been concluded, and its report was presented to the Association’s officials, who subsequently resolved, amongst other things, to refer it to the MFA Executive Board.
The report confirmed the existence of a financial discrepancy amounting to approximately €16,000, although it did not establish the precise cause of this discrepancy. During today’s meeting, the Executive Board was informed of the additional steps taken, including the filing of a police report on 14th November 2025, the referral of the matter to the Finance Committee to review and recommend improvements to governance structures, and the initiation of internal disciplinary proceedings against the individual identified in the report, for alleged breach of internal policies, who was suspended ever since the report was concluded.
The Malta FA also clarifies that, contrary to certain media reports, and while not excluding any possibility at this stage, it cannot state with certainty that the discrepancy is attributable to theft or any other criminal offence. The decision to refer the matter to the Executive Police was taken to ensure an additional layer of oversight and scrutiny.
Whilst the Malta FA is open to public scrutiny, it appeals to all media outlets to refrain from speculating that may be unfounded or premature, as such commentary contributes nothing toward clarifying the situation or assisting the ongoing processes. The Malta FA remains committed to full transparency and asks for responsible reporting as the matter continues to be addressed through the appropriate channels.
