IZIBET Amateur League 1: San Gwann join Vittoriosa on top

San Gwann joined Vittoriosa Stars on top the IZIBET Amateur League 1 as they came from behind to beat Qormi 2-1 at the Sirens Stadium on Sunday. David King Joachim put Qormi ahead on the half-hour but Adam Falzon equalised on 65 minutes and Ricardo Nahuel Velasquez notched the winner eight minutes from time.

Birzebbuga St. Peter’s dropped another two points as they were held in a goalless draw by Luqa St. Andrew’s at the Centenary Stadium.

Qrendi maintained hopes of securing a Top 6 finish as they registered a fine 5-2 win over Xghajra Tornados at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Ayesller Carvalho put Qrendi ahead on 2 minutes and three minutes from the end of the first half, Leo Salgado doubled the score. Salgado added another on 68 minutes and although Shaban Chikh Ali reduced the gap on 75 minutes, two minutes later, Carvalho scored Qrendi’s fourth. Richmond Baratuipre scored a second goal for the Tornados on 82 minutes but Ryan Spiteri made it 5-2 on the 90th.

Mellieha left it till late as a penalty by Marc Bolane Adonis three minutes from time and a goal by Daniel Oluwatobi Ighalo six minutes in added time handed them a 2-0 win over Attard at the Charles Abela Stadium.

Kirkop United defeated Rabat Ajax 5-3 at the Charles Abela Stadium. Ousman Ismaila converted a penalty to put Rabat ahead on 28 minutes but Kirkop turned the score in their favour thanks to goals by Misael Tabone on 31 minutes, Dale Tabone on 35 minutes and Jamie Cassar on 40 minutes. Francis Amaechi Onwuzo reduced the gap on 42 minutes and Kurt Muscat equalised on 59 minutes. However, Andre Matos converted a penalty on 73 minutes and Quelin Micallef sealed the issue with a fifth goal eight minutes from time.

Marsaskala claimed three important points in a 2-0 win over Pembroke Athleta at the Sirens Stadium thanks to a goal by Joshua Ojelabi on 42 minutes and a James Oghenekewaro penalty on 69 minutes.

San Gwann and Vittoriosa lead the way with 35 points, followed by Birzebbuga on 33, Luqa 28, Xghajra and Attard 27, Qrendi 24 Qormi 21, Kirkop, Mellieha and Zejtun 16, Gharghur and Pembroke 10, Marsaskala 9, Rabat 6 and Msida 3.
