Demba Toure joins Birkirkara

bkara-fcSenegalese striker Demba Touré joined champions Birkirkara after being released by Valletta.

Touré had joined the Citizens in the January transfer window, scoring six goals. In his career, he played for Olympique Lyon and Stade Reims in France, Grashoppers in Switzerand, Dynamo Kyiv, Astra Ploieşti in Romania and Al-Oruba in the UAE.

The Stripes are also aiming to sign another former Valletta player – Nigerian striker Frank Temile.

The player arrived in Malta a few days ago and is expected to sign a one-year contract with the club, pending a medical test. He should make his first appearance in a friendly match against FC Khazar Lankaran of Azerbaijan on Saturday at the Sirens Stadium.

After a fantastic season with Valletta in 2007/08, he was transferred to Dynamo Kyiv in Ukraine. However his Ukrainian experience was rather disappointing as he only played a few matches with the club’s second team, apart from a short loan spell with PFC Olexandria.

Since last season Spanish defender Alejandro Mendoza, Serbian defender Nikola Vukanac and Nigerian striker Harun Shola Shodiya were retained. Rodrigo Pereira and Jhonnattann Benites da Conceicao are expected to sign for clubs in China and Brazil respectively while Yosimar Hernandez and Joselito dos Reis were not retained.
