Women's Under-19 national team to host Northern Ireland in friendly matches

women-under-19-trainingThe Malta Under-19 women’s national team will be meeting their counterparts from Northern Ireland in two international friendlies on Wednesday 28 and Friday 30 August, both matches to be played at the MFA Training Grounds, Ta’ Qali, kick-off at 18:00.

The two friendlies will be part of the build-up the team led by coach Mark Gatt will be going through in view of the UEFA Women’s Under-19 Championship qualifiers in programme next month in Serbia where Malta will be playing the Netherlands and Bosnia-Herzegovina apart from hosts Serbia. Gatt will be assessing his units chosen from a wide cross-section of the BOV Women’s First and Second Division Leagues and will be working on integrating them into a sound collective outfit.

The squad is made up of several budding girls who have been part of the group or have just been introduced and are craving for representative status.

The matches will certainly be indicative of the growing potential of our Under-19 team and facing the girls from Northern Ireland will be a good test.

The players selected by Gatt and his assistant Natasha Pace are:
goalkeepers Rose Baldacchino (Pembroke), Keoney Demicoli (Hibs), Janice Xuereb (Birkirkara);
defenders Marie Claire Aquilina (Hibs), Tara Attard (Birkirkara), Cassandra Camilleri (Pembroke), Charlene Cassia (Mosta), Moddy-Anne Refalo (Gozo), Sonia Schembri (Pembroke), Gabrielle Tonna (Hibs), Michelle Zuber (Gozo);
