BOV Premier League runners-up Birkirkara strengthened their squad with the signing of three foreign players ahead of their UEFA Europa League commitments. The three players are Spanish goalkeeper Adrian Murcia Sanchez and Brazilians Rafael Pompeo Rodrigues Ledesma – a midfielder and Eliandro Gonzaga dos Santos – a striker.
These three players join defenders Alejandro Mendoza Corujo, Matheus Bissi da Silva and Nikola Vukanac who are the three foreigners confirmed so far for the coming season.
Twenty-six year old Adrian Murcia Sanchez played for UD Salamanca, Mar Menor CF and CD Castellón in the Spanish third and fourth divisions over the past couple of years.
After starting his career in his home-country, Brazilian midfielder Rafael Ledesma moved to Europe in 2006 and since then played for FBK Kaunas in Lithuania, Partizan Minsk and Dinamo Minsk in Belarus, Sūduva Marijampolė in Lithuania and for Ethnikos Achna in Cyprus last season. While playing for Kaunas and Suduva, he scored no less than 56 goals in 79 matches.
Twenty-four year old Eliandro, on the other hand, was on the books of Portuguese Primeira Liga side CD Nacional last season, on loan from Cruzeiro.
Adrián Murcia and Rafael Ledesma have already made a first appearance for the Stripes in the Euro Cup Friendly Tournament clash with Valletta while Eliandro is expected to make his first appearance in the clash with Hibernians.
Meanwhile captain Gareth Sciberras and Joseph Zerafa have renewed their contract with the club for another two years.
