Valletta secure place in Meridianbet FA Trophy quarter-finals after eliminating Gzira United

BOV Challenge League leaders Valletta eliminated Gzira United from the Meridianbet FA Trophy as they defeated them 1-0 after extra-time in a match from the Round of 16 at the National Stadium on Wednesday.

Following a goalless ninety minutes, James Scicluna scored the all-important goal for Thane Micallef’s side twelve minutes in the first half of extra-time.

At the Centenary Stadium, Sliema Wanderers defeated Challenge League side Marsa 4-0.

Mohamed Awad put the Wanderers ahead on 31 minutes and four minutes from the end of the first half, Gustavo Alcino doubled the score. Kyrian Nwoko scored twice in the second half on 48 and 76 minutes.

In another match at the Centenary Stadium, a goal after 33 seconds by Eke Junior Chukwuemeka paved the way for a comfortable 4-0 win for Mosta over IZIBET Amateur League 1 side Qrendi.

Jamie Scerri doubled the score on 31 minutes and five minutes from the end of the first half, Salomo Ojala made it 3-0. Souleymane Kone added another ten minutes from time.

At the National Stadium, Hamrun Spartans defeated Zabbar St. Patrick 2-1.

Eder put the Spartans ahead on 32 minutes and although Diogo Tavares equalised on 64 minutes, Mayron notched the winner two minutes from time.

Valletta, Sliema Wanderers, Mosta and Hamrun Spartans join Hibernians and Birkirkara in the quarter-finals with the remaining two quarter-finalists emerging from the two matches in programme on Thursday.
