The Malta Beach Soccer National Team recorded a significant milestone on Friday, achieving its first win in the Euro Beach Soccer League.
The match, played against Norway in Division B of the Euro Beach Soccer League, took place at the Stabia Beach Arena at Castellammare di Stabia.
Malta, under the guidance of Coach Marco Casarsa, got a significant boost in the second period, when Norway’s Amund Haaland Aano was sent off. Malta took full advantage and scored immediately after thanks to Lee Joe Schembri.
Coach Casarsa’s side continued to build momentum following the opener, and Daryl Micallef was on hand to double the lead only a few moments later.
Malta went into the third period two goals in front, and a few minutes after the restart, the lead was extended to three goals, with Micallef once again getting his name on the scoresheet. Malta had a number of chances to continue extending their lead and to put the game to bed but could not add to their scoring.
Norway looked to get something from the match late on, and they reduced the deficit thanks to goals from Andreas Skotheimsvik and Sebastian Haga, but the Maltese side defended bravely and came away with a 3-2 win.
