Hamrun Spartans were eliminated from the UEFA Champions League after losing 3-0 to Dynamo Kyiv of Ukraine in the second leg of the second qualifying round at the Arena Lublin in Poland on Tuesday for a 6-0 aggregate score.
Dynamo Kyiv will be facing the winner of the tie between Pafos FC of Cyprus or Maccabi Tel Aviv of Israel in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League. The first leg in Cyprus ended in a 1-1 draw.
On the other hand, Hamrun Spartans will face the loser of Pafos FC or Maccabi Tel Aviv in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League.
Dynamo Kyiv appeared to have the lead on 12 minutes when off a corner by Shaparrenko from the left, Kristian Bilovar headed home from close range. However the goal was disallowed following VAR review.
However on 28 minutes, they were not to be denied when Vladyslav Vanat intercepted an erratic back pass by Vincenzo Polito and beat the helpless Bonello.
The second goal arrived seven minutes later when Voloshyn released Shapanko on the left and off the latter’s pass, Volodymyr Brazhko placed the ball at the back of the net.
Eight minutes from time, Taras Mykhavko made it 3-0 with a diagonal shot from the right which beat Bonello.
