Hibernians were eliminated from the UEFA Conference League second qualifying round after losing 5-1 to Spartak Trnava in the second leg at the Štadión Antona Malatinského in Trnava on Thursday. Spartak Trnava therefore proceed to the next stage with a 7-2 aggregate score.
The Paolites knew it would be no easy task to overturn the result following the 1-2 defeat at the Tony Bezzina Stadium last week and Spartak Trnava wasted no time to start putting their minds at rest, taking the lead after just four minutes thanks to Libor Holik.
Stefan Skrbo doubled the score on 13 minutes but Hibernians had the opportunity to reduce the gap when they were awarded a penalty after Miullen was fouled inside the area by Kostrna. However, Bjorn Kristensen’s effort was neutralised by the goalkeeper.
Spartak Trnava were awarded a penalty as well on 31 minutes following a foul by Pablo Alves but Michal Duris hit the woodwork from the penalty spot.
Six minutes later, Miullen reduced the gap for Hibernians, when served by Lucas Villela.
However two minutes in the second half, Michal Tomic made it 3-1and seven minutes later, Pedrao committed an own goal. Philip Azango sealed the issue with a fifth goal on 57 minutes.
