Newly-promoted Valletta held Birkirkara in a goalless draw in the opening match of the YoHealth Malta Premier 2025/26 at the National Stadium on Saturday.
The Citizens had goalkeeper Adilson Maringa, Steve Borg, Yannick Yankam, Shaft Brewer Jr, Sava Radic, Thaylor, Jackson Mendoza making their debut along with Jefferson who was included as a substitute. The Stripes, on the other hand, had Miguel Angel Martinez, Fran Lopez, Franklin Sasere and Macula making their league debut along with substitutes Jan Busuttil and Geoffrey Acheampong.
Following a goalless first half, seven minutes in the second half, Shaft Brewer Jr missed an excellent opportunity to put the Citizens ahead, hitting the upright off a cross from the right by Yankam.
