Floriana defeated Naxxar Lions 3-1 in a match from the YoHealth Malta Premier Opening Round at the National Stadium on Saturday.
The Greens scored two early goals and although the Lions pulled one back early in the second half, Floriana sealed the issue with a third goal.
Floriana had Chico Teixeira making his debut while Guilherme Coletti, Lucas Lopez, Federico Varela, Mustapha Jah, Charles M’Mombwa and Iago Mendonca along with substitutes Rui Areias and Mattia Veselji made their league debut.
Naxxar also had a number of players making their debut, namely Christian Gauci, Gustavo Campos, Joao Victor, Mariano, Rosiel, Cedric Kontchou, Sekala Guehi and substitutes Firmino and Juan Hernandez.
Floriana managed to take the lead on 17 minutes when off an assist by Chico Teixeira from the right, Mustapha Jah slotted the ball past goalkeeper Matthias Debono.
Ten minutes later, the Greens doubled the score courtesy of Chico Teixeira whose direct free kick ended in the top right corner past goalkeeper Debono.
Naxxar reduced the gap eight minutes in the second half thanks to Mariano who hit low past goalkeeper Guilherme Cioletti after Firmino stole the ball off Dunstan Vella inside the area.
Floriana made it 3-1 on 67 minutes thanks to Iago Mendonca who headed the ball home off a Jake Grech corner from the left.
