Despite ending the game in ten men, Mosta registered their first win as they defeated Sliema Wanderers 1-0 in a match from the YoHealth Malta Premier Opening Round at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Friday.
The Wanderers held the initiative for long stretches and were unlucky to hit the woodwork twice but Mosta managed to keep their opponents under control, striking late to take home the three points.
Sliema had one change from the team which defeated Zabbar as Sulahmana Mamadu Bah replaced Luke Montebello. Mosta, on the other hand, had Leo Fernandes, Eke Chukwuemeka and Daniel GTA replacing Quelmer Hurtado, Nathan Agius and the suspended Giancarlo Goncalves.

Following a goalless first half, Vito Plut hit the crossbar with a header, off a cross by Adam Magri Overend, deflected by goalkeeper David Udoh Akpan onto the crossbar on 58 minutes and nine minutes later, the Slovenian forward hit the foot of the upright after receiving a through ball on the left and trying his luck with a shot from the edge of the area.
Mosta, however, took the lead on 79 minutes when Prince Chibuzor Emmanuel was brought down inside the area by Murilo Freire and from the penalty spot, Leo Fernandes converted.
Four minutes later, Mosta had Eke Chukwuemeka sent off, leaving his side in ten men.
