Birkirkara, Gzira share spoils in goalless draw

Birkirkara were held in another goalless draw, this time by Gzira United in a match from the YoHealth Malta Premier Opening Round at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Saturday.

While for Birkirkara, this was the second point from two matches, Gzira earned their first point following a 3-5 defeat to Hibernians on Monday.

The Stripes had four changes from the team which drew with Valletta as Fran Lopez, Kurt Zammit, Shaun Dimech and Franklin Sasere made way for Stefan Marjanovic, Neil Micallef, Geoffrey Acheampong and Jan Busuttil. Clive Mizzi, on the other hand, handed Bonilha a start as he was preferred to Pablo Fonseca.

The Maroons went close to taking the lead towards the end of the first half with a Maxuell Samurai freekick which was turned into a corner with particular difficulty by Miguel Angel Martinez while in added time, Clayton Failla cleared off the goal line a Kemar Reid effort from the left.

Mid-way through the second half, Gzira went close once again with a diagonal shot by Maxuell Samurai which scraped past the post while in added time, Martinez managed to halt a great run by Kante on the right flank.
