Malta FA Jubilee Cup: Another five teams make it through to Round 2

Another five teams secured a place in Round 2 of the Malta FA Jubilee Cup Phase 1 as they registered wins on Sunday.

At the Sirens Stadium, Victoria Hotspurs defeated Siggiewi 4-0. Kurt Borg put the Hotspurs ahead on 39 minutes and two minutes later, Emmanuel Mbong doubled the score. Rondinely scored twice in the second half on 55 and 90 minutes. 

The Hotspurs will be facing Pembroke Athleta in Round 2 after the latter defeated Ta’ Xbiex 6-0 in another match at the Sirens Stadium. Samuel Saldanha put Pembroke ahead on 16 minutes. Weverton Gomes doubled the score on 55 minutes. An own goal increased the lead further on 77 minutes  with Kyle Sciberras Balbi scoring a fourth goal three minutes from time and Kyle Cassar adding another on 90 minutes., 

Lija Athletic defeated Mdina Knights 4-1 at the Centenary Stadium. Aaron Sammut Steer put Lija ahead on 45 minutes and one minute in the second half, Mead Mifsud doubled the score. Erjon Beu made it 3-0 on 52 minutes and Juan Ruiz scored a fourth goal on 66 minues. Giovanni Galea converted a penalty on 71 minutes for Mdina.

In Round 2, Lija will be facing San Gwann.

In the South Region, Qrendi beat Kalkara United 3-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

Gianfranco Micallef put Qrendi ahead on 4 minutes. Miguel Perez Jimenez equalised on 20 minutes but Dion Ciantar made it 2-1 on 31 minutes and Joseph Jojo Ogunnupe sealed the issue with a third goal on one minute in the second half. 

In Round 2, Qrendi will be facing Senglea Ahtletic. 

In another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Zejtun Corinthians beat Luqa St. Andrew’s 2-0.

Isaac Joseph Galea put the Corinthians ahead on 28 minutes and just before the end of the first half, Matteo Tanti doubled the score.

In Round 2, Zejtun Corinthians will be facing Marsaskala or Qormi.
