Floriana dropped their first points in the YoHealth Malta Premier Opening Round as they were held in a 1-1 draw by Gzira United at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Friday.
The Maroons, who were coming from a defeat to Hibernians and a draw with Birkirkara, were hoping for their first win. They managed to take the lead and although the Greens were quick to equalise, in the dying minutes, Gzira had an excellent chance to regain the lead when Kante advanced all alone, only to be denied by goalkeeper Cioletti and then they appealed for a penalty after Brooklyn Borg appeared to be floored inside the area.
Gzira managed to take the lead on 10 minutes courtesy of a Maxuell Samurai free kick which beat goalkeeper Guilherme Cioletti.
However seven minutes later, Federico Varela sent Rui Areias through inside the area and the latter slotted the ball past goalkeeper Karl Sargent.
