Hibernians turn defeat into victory

Hibernians notched a dramatic winner deep in extra time as they came from behind to beat Birkirkara 2-1 in a match from the YoHealth Malta Premier Opening Round at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Saturday.

The Paolites move top, on level points with Floriana, leaving the Stripes on the two-point mark, still without a win after three matches.

Leading the team was Alessandro Caridi as they are yet to appoint a new coach following the termination of the contract of Stefano De Angelis

Birkirkara managed to take the lead on 26 minutes when Kemar Reid concluded a great run with a powerful drive from outside the area which gave goalkeeper Justin Haber no chance.

The Stripes had several opportunities thanks to which they could have extended the lead during the first half.

However, Hibernians managed to equalise when off a corner from the right, Joao Teixeira headed home past goalkeeper Martinez.

Six minutes in added time, Hibernians notched the winner courtesy of Cleiton who received a through ball and avoided Marjanovic to beat Martinez with a diagonal shot from the left.
