The Assikura Women’s League resumed after a short break for the Assikura Women’s Super Cup, which was lifted by Swieqi United following their win over Mġarr United.
Back in league action, Swieqi edged Birkirkara 1-0 in the marquee fixture, while Mġarr kept their perfect record intact with a third consecutive victory.
Hibernians also stayed flawless, comfortably overcoming Valletta to keep pace at the top.
At the Centenary Stadium, Swieqi’s Bulgarian international Aleksandra Yaneva struck after just 13 minutes, calmly slotting past Janice Xuereb to seal the decisive goal.
Birkirkara had a golden chance to level the score, but new signing Momo Ueda was unable to convert from the penalty spot. The Japanese forward, who recently joined the Stripes alongside compatriot Haruhi Sekura, was handed her debut, with midfielder Leanne Micallef—another summer recruit—also starting the match.
Before kick-off, Swieqi stalwart Emma Xuereb was recognised for reaching 100 appearances across all competitions, receiving a commemorative memento in celebration of her milestone.
