Dingli Swallows, Mqabba, Luqa St. Andrew’s and Victoria Hotspurs joined Attard, Kirkop United, Lija Athletic, Msida St. Joseph, Pembroke Athlete, Qrendi, San Gwann and Xghajra in the Round of 16 of the BOV Amateur Cup as they registered wins in matches from the Round of 32 on Sunday.
At the Sirens Stadium, Dingli Swallows came from behind to beat neighbours Rabat Ajax 3-1 after extra-time in the derby. Victor Ifeanyi Mbata put the Magpies ahead on 18 minutes but Ronaldinho Daley equalised two minutes later. The match went into extra-time and Dingli scored twice through Andie Sammut on 103 minutes and Daley two minutes later.
In the next round, Dingli will be facing Qormi or Mellieha.
Mqabba beat Sannat Lions 4-3 after extra-time at the Luxol Stadium. Jeremy Busuttil put Mqabba ahead on 13 minutes and although Paul Said equalised on 23 minutes, two minutes later, Busuttil restored the lead for Mqabba. Julian Farrugia made it 3-1 on 75 minutes but goals by Mikhail Vella on 81 minutes and Igor Nedeljkovic four minutes in added time restored equilibrium. The match went into extra-time and with two minutes to go, Jeremy Busuttil converted a penalty for Mqabba.
Msida will be facing Kalkara United or Senglea Athletic in the next round.
At the Luxol Stadium, Luqa St. Andrew’s registered a dramatic 3-1 win over Mdina Knights after extra-time. Daniel Joseph Vella put Mdina ahead just before the end of the first half but with one minute to go, Andreas Psaila equalised to force extra-time. In the first half of extra-time, goals by Owen Vella on 99 minutes and Nathan Frendo two minutes later handed Luqa a place in the Round of 16 where they would be facing Lija Athletic.
At the Sirens Stadium, Victoria Hotspurs found no difficulty in beating St. Lawrence Spurs 6-1. Emmanuel Mbong put the Hotspurs ahead on 11 minutes and Rondinely doubled the score on 28 minutes. Matthias Said made it 3-0 on 35 minutes and Kurt Borg added another on the hour. St. Lawrence pulled one back through Ebube Ralph Okpokwu on 68 minutes but the Hotspurs scored twice through Dejan Vukovic on 72 minutes and Andrew Grima on 76 minutes to make it 6-1.
Victoria Hotspurs will be facing Qrendi in the next round.
